A history of our facility. We are located in the center of the Historical District of Northeast Louisiana. The building was orginally the home of one of the first banks in the area. Later it housed the Wester Union for 50 years prior to the renovation that made it into one of the most well remembered restaurants in the area. It is now probably the most unique Specal Events Center in Northeast Louisiana. Court house records indicate the building was built in the later 1880's - making the building approximately 125 years old. Contractors for the renovation of the building have conmmented strongly concerning the structural strength of the building which is bound together by outer brick walls in some cases measuring up to two feet thick with floor and ceiling joists up to 2 X 18 inches. The lower foundation walls go down underground as much as 10 feet. (They don't make 'em that way any more!) The building has a total of just under 6,000 square feet with approximately 1500 square feet of assembly area. There are three main floors and seven different levels complimented by a large number of antique pictures, tiffany style lights and antique light fixtures. A one of a kind solid oak triple spiral stair case leads you to the second and third floors. On the second floor you find the custom oak bar and back bar that is set off by the traditional "Turn of the Century Lady" in stained glass. A total of approximately 1300 square feet of custom antique stained and beveled glass, hand pressed metal ceiling with 1000 feet of steel crown molding, tongue and groove wood paneling and over 2 miles of wood moldings combine together turn back the clock and create a nostalgic setting for your events. "Austin's by the River" is truly a one-of-a-kind place with a uniqueness that will always be fondly remembered by everyone. |
